Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder

(ARFID)

(ARFID) is a fairly new eating disorder seen in both children and adults. Children with ARFID are extremely selective eaters and sometimes have little interest in eating food. They may eat a limited variety of preferred foods, which can lead to poor growth and poor nutrition.

 Our supportive process focuses on;

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy  –  Psycho-education, treatment planning, addressing the mechanisms maintaining ARFID symptoms, and strategies for prevention and relapse.

  • Family Based Therapy – includes participation from family members,  to empower them to assist in reestablishing healthy eating and reduce the symptoms of the disorder (i.e. lack of interest, sensory sensitivities, fear of aversive consequences).

  • Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions -  Help parents respond to their child’s problematic eating habits and encourage greater food flexibility.
